Gang,

Don’t know how many of you knew Mark Kale, but he was very active in the Ingres community in the 90s and 00s. He still worked with Ingres at Boston Scientific up until recently.

I first met Mark Kale at a meeting of the Minnesota Ingres Users Group in Minneapolis in the mid-90s. I worked for/with/along side Mark for over 10 years. He was the vision behind the JSQL Ingres JDBC driver created by Caribou Lake Software and used by hundreds of Ingres sites world-wide. Although my company recently stopped supporting JSQL, I believe it is still in use at facilities nearly 20 years after our first installation at Seagate.

If you attended Ingres World or CA World from 1993 through the mid 2000s, you would have encountered Mark and he probably bought you a drink and tried to convince you that circular paths in your data model would eventually lead to world destruction. He was passionate!

Mark was a good friend and he will be missed.

Thought I would pass this along:

Mark Douglas Kale passed away peacefully on March 4, 2016 at the age of 53 surrounded by family. He was born March 27, 1962 in Renton, WA to Stuart and Barbara (nee Lewis) Kale. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1980 and in 1984 completed his undergraduate studies in computer science at the University of Minnesota.

Mark married his first wife Judy Gregory on July 14, 1984. He began working at Unisys following college. This began a successful career in database architecture. He founded and grew a successful consulting and product company called Caribou Lake Software in 1996. Mark was proud of his accomplishments at Caribou Lake Software where he became a leader of business and industry. Mark married Maya Fadeeva on, March 6, 1999, in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. In 2005 Mark joined Boston Scientific and was very proud to lead them in big data architecture.

Mark was known for being caring and compassionate, having an inexhaustible supply of corny jokes, and a steady stream of crazy business ideas. He loved spending time up at his family cabin in Mora, MN. He was also an avid Timberwolves fan (one of the last charter member season ticket holders), a very solid point guard and a damn good softball player. He also believed that good music stopped being recorded in 1985. He was one of a kind and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Maya, his son Matthew (Heather), his step-son Max, his daughter Nicole, his mother Barbara, his step-mother Bobbie, his sister Robin (Rob), his brothers Richard and Jim (Lori), nieces Amber and Ava, and nephew John. He was preceded in death by his father Stuart Kale and nephew Austin Kale.

Gathering of Friends and Family is scheduled for 5-6 PM, Thursday, March 10 at Klecatsky & Sons Eagan Chapel, 1580 Century Point, Eagan, MN followed by a 6 PM Memorial Service, reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be directed to: http://diabetesfoundation.jdrf.com/info/jdrf/ - Minnesota Charpter in support of his son.
