They don't mean quite the same thing but they don't really conflict
either. 

Unless you are actually relying on the specific anomalies that
REPEATABLE READ allows then MVCC would usually be what you would want
(in the sense that it means "I don't insist that the transaction be
SERIALIZABLE").
