There are significant catalog changes to work through from 9.2 to the 10s. If your clients are running 9.2 versions of VDBA (etc) then they too will need to be upgraded for them to work well with the new database catalogs.
Before you start:
1. Back up all databases and turn journaling off.
2. Run unloaddb on each database and save the copy.in file created for each database somewhere nice and safe! If something goes pair shaped the copy.in is invaluable reference for restoring views that have been dropped silently by upgradedb.
3. Turn OFF security auditing and remove all the current audit files. With security auditing ON the upgradedb will take an extensive period to complete.
Install the new Ingres 10.2 but when prompted only upgrade iidbdb. Wait for the install to complete, then install the latest patch and finally run upgradedb all.
Then restore journaling, security auditing, restart ingres and pray to deity of choice.

Subject: [Info-ingres] Upgrading Ingres 9.2 to 10.2 - are there know problems ?
Hi
We want to upgrade Ingres , on VMS, from version 9.2 to version 10.2.
Has anyone done that kind of upgrade ?
Are there know problems in the upgrade ?
Are there any 9.2 features that are no longer supported by version 10.2 ?
Thanks
David Greenberg
