That was a good one that I had to explain a couple of times today, and for those that didn’t get it “HCL” is Hydrochloric Acid <span style="font-family:"Segoe UI Emoji",sans-serif">😉

You should all have received an email from Rohit yesterday about the deal, but I thought I’d provide some thoughts from inside Actian: The way the deal has been structured is very clever; the 80/20 split means that we are independent
of HCL, although they will be represented on our board of directors, and we will leverage their relationships and their scale where it benefits us. We will remain as Actian and Rohit will continue in his role as CEO. The entire executive team has signed
up to the new opportunity and they’ve been very clear that this is about the people as much as it is about our technology portfolio. There are no planned layoffs or changes to our support systems, so it’s pretty much business as usual from a customer support
perspective. What will change is that we will have a massive new partner bringing our products into a myriad of opportunities. HCL will embed Actian technologies in their products and solutions and we’ve already identified a bunch of opportunities where
there’s a great fit. The additional revenue that HCL, as a partner, will bring our way will give us the chance to increase our investment in innovation and in awareness campaigns. The deal won’t close until the summer-time so it’s business as usual for
now, but even after the deal closes we suspect that you may not even notice the difference.
