Hi Roy,
I think it gets reset when you upgrade to Ingres 11, but after the upgrade it then behaves as before by storing the patch history.
For example my test box has a version.dat as follows:
## action performed status patch seq version
##
install 07-May-2019 08:54:38 valid 15430 1 II 11.1.0 (a64.lnx/100)
install 25-Mar-2019 08:08:28 valid 15416 1 II 11.0.0 (a64.lnx/100)
install 26-Feb-2019 12:51:59 valid 15408 1 II 11.0.0 (a64.lnx/100)
install 23-Jan-2019 09:13:52 valid 15399 1 II 11.0.0 (a64.lnx/100)
etc..

Subject: [Info-ingres] version.rel versus version.dat
What is expected to be in version.dat? I see a history of patches going
back to 9.2, but after upgrading to 11.0 recently there is nothing about
it in version.dat. Ingres 11 appears as expected in version.rel.
Just curious.
Roy
