That certainly looks neater than this: select * from foo where name similar to '[-[:UPPER:][:punct:]^!#$&<=@/:;`~,"'']+'
And I think you should ask Actian for a clarification on this one.

So it's not just me then. I don't know whether to be pleased or not.
For now I've worked around it by deleting the periods first:
select * from foo where replace(name,'.','')
not similar to '[-''ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ]+'

PS, I'm not using [:UPPER:] or [A-Z] because my real character class
contains additional accented characters. Just listing them all seems
aesthetically smoother. :-)
