There are "best practices" that should be better known (or documented)
to avoid unwelcome surprises when using ALTER TABLE...ADD COLUMN.
Testing prior to release into live is always prudent. Surprises during
testing are acceptable (to me). Every day is a school day.

Even so, we should expect ALTER TABLE to give identical results
whether using compression or not. 

The other thing that puzzled me about Marty's example is that
non-HIDATA compression isn't expected to do anything to integers.
